Fur seekers and explorers during the 1800s would embark on expeditions in large companies then split off into small groups in order to traverse greater expanses of territory in search of rich hunting grounds or better passageways into the new world. Along the way, they would encounter magnificent scenes that caused them to pause and marvel at the grandeur of “God’s” country. Journals of many Mountain Men would contain entries expressing their deep appreciation of such grand experiences.
